A block of stone had my upper arm in a viselike grip. It was giving me a small shake as well.
âHarper. Harper, itâs time to get up.â
I groaned. âGo away.â
âCome on, Rosebud. We need to leave.â
I grunted but didnât make any move to get up.
âI brought you a sandwich.â
That had me moving. Food hadnât passed my lips in far too long. How Iâd slept in a starving stateâI noticed my hunger now that Iâd woken, and food had been mentionedâI had no idea.
âWhere?â
âIn the car.â Ugh.
Light came in from outside my door. Blake had kept my bedroom light off. How kind of him. Howâd I get here? Weâd left the living room, but I didnât remember anything after that. I must have fallen asleep in Blakeâs arms.
âThank you for bringing me to bed,â I said as I allowed him to help me sit upright.
âUm, youâre welcome.â He sounded weird, but I let it passâstill too tired to want to delve into the gargoyleâs shyness.
âDo I have time to clean up and use the bathroom?â If I remembered right, we were heading to his parentsâ house. That was not something I wanted to dwell on, or Iâd have a panic attack of sorts and Blake would have to remove me with force from the house.
âBe fast. Jordon wants to leave in fifteen minutes.â
The bag of new clothes sat on a table by the door. I rushed to it, trying not to fall over in my haste while still waking up.
âSee you in ten,â I called, closing myself into the bathroom.
I took the fastest shower of my life in the most exquisite shower Iâd ever been in. If I tied myself to Blake, Iâd have these nice conveniences at my disposal every day. Was tying myself to Blake under these conditions, and also so I wouldnât have to go to the tiny house Craig and I had moved into, fair to the gargoyle?
Blake waited in my room when I came out of the bathroom. When he noticed me, the gargoyle stood erect from where he leaned against the doorframe.
âReady?â
I nodded, running a hand through my wet hair as I looked around the room to verify I had everything. âYeah, I think so.â
âIf you forget anything, we will be back.â
At least Iâd be back to pick up any forgotten items before moving back in with Craig. While Iâd begun to like Blake as a person, I was still so far from love. Yes, Iâd like to work with him more in his garageâIâd had a blastâbut as I followed him from the room, I decided there was no use worrying about it right then. We had bigger things happening now. Like escaping Blakeâs castle of a mansion.
Jordon met us in the entry hall. He looked at Blake, ignoring me, but he was also all business, so I wasnât offended. âIâll take her from here. Go release the Danvilles. Weâll meet you just outside the front gate.â
Blake nodded and pushed me forward to go with his cousin.
